Background: 2D strain can assess myocardial function & synchrony & has not bee evaluated in chronic right ventricular (RV) pacing.
Methods: 117 pts implanted with dual chamber pacemaker b/w 2006-2016 & LVEF>50% were enrolled. Echo data at < 2 yrs (0.79 ± 0.62 yrs) & > 2-yrs (3.30 ± 1.19 yrs) follow-up (FU) & LV longitudinal strain (LS), systolic & early diastolic longitudinal strain rate (LSrs & LSre), systolic & diastolic dyssynchrony (SD of time to peak myocardial systolic & early diastolic strain rate (Ts-SD, Te-SD) were measured.
Results: LV LS, LSrs and LSre reduced & Ts-SD and Te-SD prolonged at <2 yr FU. Ts-SD and Te-SD were worse at > 2 yr vs. <2 yr FU (Table1, Figure 1).
Conclusions: Long-term RV pacing impairs LV diastolic & systolic function & synchrony. Systolic & diastolic mechanical dyssynchrony worsens over time.
