The aim of this study is to anticipate the role of cardiac rehabilitation in enhancement of efficacy of cell therapy in cardiovascular disease.
In this narrative study search several data base using key words including cell therapy, stem cell, regeneration rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular disease.
Cardiac rehabilitation as a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach improves physical, psychological and socioeconomic status of cardiac patient as well as decreasing total and cardiac mortality and morbidity. Besides, cell-therapy is a new treatment strategy for heart diseases which is feasible and safe. The in-vitro and in-vivo studies have shown the influence of cell-therapy on the function of myocardium after myocardial infarction. Cardiac rehabilitation particularly exercise training seems to improve cell survival, angiogenesis and tissue remodeling therefore it can be a choice especially for end stage cardiac patients such as heart failure because the most current treatment for them is cardiac transplantation which has its limitations like donor shortage and risk of tissue rejection and associated cancers.
Considering above mentioned points, cardiac rehabilitation may increase the efficacy of cell-therapy in these patients which is referred as regenerative rehabilitation, however more studies are need to understand the mechanisms of influence, efficacy, complications and the best technology of implementation for this hybrid method of treatment.
